People in society have so many problems that they dont know what to do withy them. Since they dont want to admit that its there fault, so they push all their problems on one scapegoat. That scapegoat? Videogames People believe that if a problem isnt their fault, then they dont have to do a thing about it. This ends up with thousands of attention hungry people starting campaigns to end all videogames. This is affecting are freedom of speech, and for reasons that have not been proven true. Studies have shown that a group of kids who played a violent videogame for an extended amount have shown no signs of increased aggressiveness. Even though we have this research, anti videogame campaigners still try to yell their complaints for the world. Issues such as, Dead Rising has black zombies as well as white zombies, thats racist!, or okemon teaches slave trading, gambling, animal fighting, etc. Theres too much blood! too much sex too much of anything!!!! Then people have to automatically assume about video games. The video game BULLY was immediately assumed to be about the columbine incident, and people tried to get it banned, it was actually just about a kid going to a boarding school! Then there is the worst problem, Jack Thompson. Jack Thompson wanted attention so he took a stand on the videogame controversy. He is paranoid and mentally unstable, not a good mix. He sued people for threatening his life, such as making a flash animation of him being hit in the head. He said he would make a huge donation of money to a company if they would make a game where you killed videogame designers. They did, but Jack refused to go through with it. Two people later made the donation and gave all the credit to Jack, he attempted to sue them. Jack Thompson is a fine example of how ridiculous this videogame campaign is. If you think about it, videogames are basically just interactive books. This might lead up to a strange Fahrenheit451 universe, where video games are burned instead, and Jack Thompson would be some god
Some videogames have inappropriate things in them, but that is why they have ratings. If a kid gets nightmares from playing M rated video games, the person at fault is the parents for letting the child play them. As one man said, Guns dont kill people, people kill people! Guns protect people from people with smaller guns! So a similar saying is, Video games dont kill people, it just keeps them from getting extremely bored. A plumber saving a princess from an evil turtle doesnt cause a man to bury a girl alive, a messed up childhood does. People need to start taking responsibility for their actions, and stop causing trouble to other people or objects.
Note for Jack Thompson:
my email adress is frogstaff@hotmail.com in case you want to harrass me about this
My mom is the same way, except with books. I was reading "Battle Royale" Which is about a bunch of kids who are forced to go to a remote island and kill each other until only one of them is left standing. I thought it was pretty cool, so I read it, and my mother was like "Nyeeeeehhhh! Don't read this, or you'll end up like Cho Seung Hui or those two guys from Columbine!"
My dad is forcing me to read a book on how to read hitler before I can read Mein Kampf and his second book
my dad always said I need some more books in my brain
the only classics I read were:
Dracula
Frankenstein
Moby Dick (abridged)
war of the worlds
farenheit 451
Beowulf
I am america (and so can you)
.... my brain hurts....
Oh yeah, some asshole in my church once dissed the bully game
"I heard this game is going to be about the columbine and that's-"
"EXCUSE ME!! Did you actually read about this game?"
"No-"
"EXACTLY! You didn't! Bully has nothing to do with that shit! You just heard some one else say that and thought you knew everything! Why don't you do some research before saying it in here jesus freak!"
